1. Introduction

London Theatre Geek ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This document outlines our approach to data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable data protection laws.

2. Data Collection and Usage

While our core website is designed to be as privacy-focused as possible, we utilize third-party services to provide community and functional features:

Comment Services: Our community comments are powered by FastComments. If you choose to comment, the data you provide (such as your display name and the content of your comment) is processed by FastComments solely to display and manage the discussion.
Hosting: Our site is hosted via Vercel. Vercel may collect standard server logs, including IP addresses, to ensure the security and stability of the platform. We do not use this data for marketing or profiling.
Visitor statistics: We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read, so we know what to improve. It records the pages you view, how you arrived (for example from a search), your device and browser type and your approximate location (town or city), using cookies (named _ga). It only runs if you agree when we ask on your first visit; say no and no analytics cookies are set. You can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page. Google Analytics does not store your IP address, we never combine this with anything that identifies you, and we don't use it for advertising.
Links to ticket sellers: Some links to ticket sellers, hotels and seating sites are affiliate links: if you book after following one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. The seller, or an affiliate network such as Awin, may set a cookie on their own site to record that you came from us. We receive the commission, not your personal details.

3. Cookie Policy

We aim to minimize the use of tracking technologies.

Our cookies: We set no advertising cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies to count visits, but only if you accept them (see Visitor statistics above; change your choice with Cookie settings at the foot of any page), and if you sign in, your session is kept in your browser so you stay signed in (see Reader accounts below).
Third-Party Cookies: By participating in show comments, third-party functional cookies may be used by FastComments. These are strictly necessary for the technical operation of the comment system (e.g., maintaining your session or remembering your preferences).

4. Data Retention

We adhere to the principle of "data minimization."

Standard Usage: We do not keep personal data about visitors who don't sign in. Google Analytics keeps its visit statistics for a limited period (up to 14 months) and then deletes them.
Comment Data: Comments and associated display names submitted to our Site are retained for the duration that the discussion remains active on our platform. Users may contact us to request the removal of their own comments at any time.

5. Your Rights (GDPR Compliance)

Under GDPR, users residing in the UK/EU have the following rights:

The Right to Access: You may request copies of your personal data.
The Right to Rectification: You may request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate.
The Right to Erasure: You may request that we erase your personal data under certain conditions.
The Right to Data Portability: You may request that we transfer your data to another organization.
The Right to Object: You may object to our use of your data, and withdraw your consent to analytics cookies at any time with Cookie settings.

6. Reader accounts

You can read the whole site without an account. If you choose to create one, this is what we keep and why:

What we store: your email address; a display name, if you add one; the shows you mark as favourites; the deal types you choose to hide and any "about me" choices (student, under 26, bringing children); any shows you register interest in for a group trip, with the number of seats, the days that suit you and an optional note; any searches you save on our Shows page, with the name you give them; and whether you want our newsletter.
Why: to sign you in, and to show you your favourites, your saved searches and the deals that suit you. Group-trip interest is used only to judge whether a show has enough people to organise a trip, and we may email you about that trip. The public site shows only a total number of people interested, never who. We email you our newsletter only if you opted in, and you can change that at any time.
Signing in: there are no passwords. We email you a one-time link, or you can sign in with Google if that option is shown. Your account is held with Supabase (our database provider, in the EU) and sign-in emails are sent through Resend. If you use Google, we receive only your email address and name from Google.
Without an account: if you heart a show or choose which deal types to hide before signing in, that choice is kept only in your own browser (its local storage). It never reaches us, and clearing your browser data removes it. If you later sign in, it is moved into your account and removed from the browser. Signed in or not, your browser also keeps a list of the deal types you hide, so a page can leave them out as it loads; it holds only those type names and is replaced when you sign out. If you close our "Create a free account" line, your browser remembers that too, so it stays closed.
Cookies and local storage: signing in keeps a session in an essential cookie or your browser's local storage so you stay signed in. It is strictly necessary for the account to work, is not used for tracking or advertising, and is not set unless you sign in.
Your control: from your account page you can change or remove any of this, download a copy of your data, and delete your account. Deleting it removes your sign-in and everything saved with it straight away.
Questions or requests: if you can't use the account page, email robert@promptlybuilt.co.uk and we will deal with your request (access, correction or erasure).

7. External Links Disclaimer

Our Site contains links to external websites (e.g., theatre booking sites). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party sites. We encourage you to review their specific privacy policies.

Critics’ reviews: the “What the critics said” section on a show page links to published reviews of the London production and briefly quotes them (one sentence at most, with the outlet and critic named) for the purpose of criticism and review. We show each outlet’s own star rating as published. If you publish one of these reviews and would like it removed, email robert@promptlybuilt.co.uk and we will take it down promptly.

8. Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has posted personal info, please contact us for immediate removal.

9. Accuracy of Show and Deal Data

While we make every effort to ensure that all show details, ticket pricing, and deal information displayed on London Theatre Geek are accurate and up to date, theatrical listings and promotions are subject to rapid change. There may be occasional errors, outdated offers, or incorrect details. We strongly advise all users to always verify performance dates, ticket availability, and specific deal terms directly with the official show website or ticketing venue before making any purchases.

All content provided on London Theatre Geek is for informational purposes only. We make no representations as to the accuracy or completeness of any information on this site or found by following any link on this site.
