About The Venue

The Hippodrome Casino, a Grade II listed building, opened in 1900 as a grand music hall designed by Frank Matcham, famous for its variety acts and even an indoor circus with a water tank. Over its history, it transformed from a theatre to the iconic Talk of the Town nightclub, before reopening as a major casino and entertainment complex. It retains much of its original opulent architecture, offering a vibrant atmosphere across multiple floors of gaming, dining, and live performance spaces.

Seating

The Matcham Room, the primary dedicated performance space within the Hippodrome Casino, is an intimate cabaret-style theatre. Seating is typically arranged at tables and chairs on a single, gently tiered floor, creating an immersive and close-up experience with the performers. The stage is relatively low, ensuring excellent sightlines from most positions. Legroom is generally very good due to the table setup, allowing for comfortable viewing and movement. The room's design, inspired by its original Victorian architecture, features ornate details and a luxurious atmosphere. While there are no traditional 'levels' like Stalls or Circles, the tiered arrangement ensures that views are largely unobstructed. people seated at the very back or extreme sides might have a slightly more angled or distant view, but the overall intimacy of the room minimizes any significant restrictions. Seating is often unreserved within sections or assigned by table, so early arrival is advisable for preferred spots.
