About The Venue

The Duke of York's Theatre, originally opened in 1892 as the Trafalgar Square Theatre, is a charming Victorian playhouse known for its intimate atmosphere. Designed by Walter Emden, it was renamed in 1895 and has since hosted a diverse range of productions, from classic plays to modern dramas. Its relatively small capacity and traditional proscenium arch stage offer audiences a close and engaging theatrical experience within a Grade II listed building.

Seating

The Stalls section offers close proximity to the stage. Rows A-C are very close, providing an intimate experience but may require looking up, potentially causing neck strain for some, especially for productions with action high on stage. Legroom in these front rows can be limited. From row D backwards, the rake improves, offering good sightlines over the heads of those in front. Rows D-J are generally considered excellent, providing clear, direct views. The Dress Circle overhang begins around row K/L, which may slightly obscure the very top of the stage for people in the back rows (M-P), though this is usually minor for most productions. Side seats in the front rows can have a slightly angled view.
