About The Venue

The Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre was a purpose-built, temporary theatre space located on a former car park site in Canary Wharf. Operating for a limited run, it was specifically designed to host large-scale immersive productions, most notably 'The Great Gatsby'. It offered a highly flexible and modern environment, tailored to the unique demands of its productions, creating an intimate yet expansive atmosphere for audiences. The venue is no longer operational at this location.

Seating

The Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre was a purpose-built, adaptable venue designed primarily for large-scale immersive theatrical productions rather than traditional proscenium arch shows. As such, it did not feature conventional seating levels like Stalls or Circles. Instead, the audience moved freely through multiple themed environments spread across various rooms and potentially different floors, becoming part of the narrative. For productions like 'The Great Gatsby, The Immersive Show' and 'Peaky Blinders: The Rise', the venue was transformed into a detailed, multi-room set (e.g., a mansion, a pub, a betting shop). Audience members typically stood and followed the action, choosing which characters to follow or which scenes to observe. The approximate audience capacity per performance was around 200-250. Limited seating might have been available in certain 'bar' or 'lounge' areas, but these were not fixed and varied by production. Views of the 'stage' (the performance areas) were dynamic and depended entirely on the audience's movement and proximity to the actors. Legroom was not a concern as it was primarily a standing/moving experience. The architectural layout was fluid, designed to create an enveloping environment rather than a fixed auditorium, offering a highly interactive and personal viewing experience. There were no traditional restricted views, as the experience was designed for exploration, though individual sightlines could be temporarily obstructed by other audience members depending on positioning.
