Bedlam
Bedlam is a Mercury Original co-production with Arcola Theatre in association with The New Wolsey Theatre, written by Peter Imms. The play connects two young people from different centuries whose lives become intertwined. In 1625, Shill lives in Bedlam, talking to people who aren't there, while in 2022, Aaron is suicidal and seeks help at a psychiatric facility.
Inspired by true accounts, the story explores mental illness and institutional failure, drawing unsettling parallels between past and present attitudes towards vulnerable members of society. The production runs for 90 minutes with no interval and is recommended for ages 16+.
