Bill Bailey: Vaudevillean

Comedian and multi-instrumentalist Bill Bailey returns to the West End with a show built around the vaudeville tradition, the live entertainment of the age before television and streaming. It mixes comedy, music and a range of other skills, with tales of showbiz, city life and strange happenings.

The theatre presents it as family-friendly escapism and notes Bailey's multilingual as well as musical talents. Running time is 2 hours 30 minutes including an interval. Children under 5 are not admitted, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Buying advice

How to book

Bill Bailey: Vaudevillean sells steadily, so there's no need to rush. The peak surcharge is steep, with mid-range seats at £45–£65 off-peak against £45–£85 at peak, roughly 31% more, so an off-peak date is the one to pick.

Ways to pay less

To pay less, pick an off-peak date, as mid-range seats are £45–£65 against £45–£85 on peak dates, a saving of about 31%. There is no need to book far ahead, as the show sells steadily rather than out, so you can usually pick a date and a seat without racing. The Gallery offers the lowest prices from £20 if you don't mind a distant perspective and a steep climb. There are no specific discounts for students, groups, or families.

Where to sit

At the Theatre Royal Haymarket, the Royal Circle is often the best level, with superb views; mind the legroom and the overhang at the back. The mid-Stalls are prime, but the front rows strain your neck and the back sits under the overhang. The Upper Circle is good value after a climb, and the Gallery is the budget option, distant and steep. Seats run from £20 to £125.
