About The Venue

Hampstead Theatre, founded in 1959, is a renowned London venue dedicated to new writing, often premiering significant plays and nurturing emerging talent. Originally a 'theatre in the round' in a hut, it moved to a purpose-built, modern and intimate venue in Swiss Cottage in 2003. It boasts a vibrant atmosphere, consistently delivering innovative and thought-provoking productions.

Seating

The Hampstead Theatre Main House features a single, steeply raked auditorium designed for an intimate and immersive theatrical experience. The seating capacity is flexible, typically around 174, and is arranged around a versatile stage, often configured as a thrust stage, bringing the audience close to the action from three sides. This design ensures excellent sightlines from most seats, with the steep rake effectively mitigating issues with heads in front. Legroom is generally considered good throughout the auditorium. While the thrust stage configuration means that actors may have their backs to certain sections of the audience at different times, this is an intentional aspect of the staging and not a traditional restricted view. There are no pillars or architectural obstructions within the main seating area. The individual seats are generally comfortable. Accessibility seating is typically located at the front or in designated areas, offering easy access.
