Les Misérables
Adapted from Victor Hugo's 1862 novel, this sung-through musical follows Jean Valjean, released from prison after years for petty theft, who seeks redemption and takes in an orphaned girl. Years later in Paris, young idealists, a revolution and the relentless police inspector Javert draw them into conflict.
Music is by Claude-Michel Schönberg, with original French lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel and English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. Cameron Mackintosh produces at the Sondheim Theatre, and it is the longest-running musical in the West End. From July 2026 Ian McIntosh plays Valjean and Oliver Savile plays Javert. Running time is about 2 hours 50 minutes including an interval; recommended for ages 7+.

How to book
Booking is open to March 2027, and it sells strongly, so the cheapest seats for a date tend to go first. Top-price seats rise from £205 to £215 as the date nears, so book ahead if you want the best seats; the cheaper bands move less. Peak performances carry a surcharge: mid-range seats run £120–£185 against £100–£160 off-peak, roughly 16% more, so an off-peak date is the easy saving.
Ways to pay less
Book ahead for a weekend performance, as the cheapest seats for Friday and Saturday go first. For a Tuesday to Thursday performance, TKTS often has last-minute seats at around 46% off, which is usually the best price going, though these are not guaranteed. If you don't mind standing, £20 standing places are released on the day. Pick an off-peak date if you can, as mid-range seats are about 16% less. Students pay from £28.75, but groups of ten or more get the biggest reduction, from £55 a head.

Book and pay by 27 November 2026 and the price drops to £29.50 for performances between 4 January and 20 May 2027. Rates subject to change and availability.

Where to sit
For a full-price seat, the Dress Circle is often the best in the house; check the legroom and side views. The Stalls are the premium choice, but the front rows strain the neck and the rear sits under the overhang. The Grand Circle is good value if you don't mind the climb, tight legroom and height.
