Hadestown
Hadestown retells the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice alongside the story of King Hades and Persephone, taking audiences to the underworld and back. The score blends folk, jazz and blues.
Anaïs Mitchell wrote the music, lyrics and book, and Rachel Chavkin directs. The creative team includes choreographer David Neumann, scenic designer Rachel Hauck and costume designer Michael Krass. The London production plays at the Lyric Theatre. The running time is 2 hours 30 minutes including an interval, and the production is recommended for ages 8+. It uses smoke, haze and strobe-like effects.

How to book
Booking is open to December 2026, and it sells strongly, so the cheapest seats for a date tend to go first. Premium seats hold at £140 whether you book months ahead or in the final week, so waiting costs nothing on price at the top of the house; what it costs is choice of seat. Peak performances carry a surcharge: mid-range seats run £72–£92 against £72–£87.50 off-peak, roughly 5% more, so an off-peak date is the easy saving.
Ways to pay less
For a Friday or Saturday, book early as the cheapest seats go first. Midweek, you can chance the day: TKTS has it almost every day at around 28% off, which is usually the best price going. If you are happy to gamble, £25 rush tickets on the day are another way in, though a seat is not guaranteed. Off-peak dates offer an easy saving, with mid-range seats around 5% less. Students pay from £28.75, and groups of six or more get the biggest reduction, from £42.50 a head.

Where to sit
The Dress Circle is often the best in the house, particularly Rows A to F. In the Stalls, the overhang from Row M can clip the top of the stage. The Grand Circle gives a full stage picture, but watch Row A's rail and the legroom. The Balcony is the cheapest option, with distant views, tight legroom and a rail problem in Row A.
