Mamma Mia!
Mamma Mia! is a musical built around the songs of ABBA. It tells the story of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads on a Greek island. It first opened in the West End in 1999 and has since inspired two films.
Catherine Johnson wrote the book, Phyllida Lloyd directed, and the music is by ABBA's Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. It plays at the Novello Theatre. The running time is about 2 hours 35 minutes including a 15-minute interval. It is recommended for ages 5+, children under 16 must be seated next to an adult aged 18 or over, and the production contains flashing lights.

How to book
Booking is open to October 2027, and it sells strongly, so the cheapest seats for a date tend to go first. Premium seats hold at £195 whether you book months ahead or in the final week, so waiting costs nothing on price at the top of the house; what it costs is choice of seat. Peak performances carry a surcharge: mid-range seats run £60–£135 against £50–£125 off-peak, roughly 8% more, so an off-peak date is the easy saving. Booking well ahead also earns an early-bird rate.
Ways to pay less
The £30 day tickets, released from 10:30 am daily on the official website, offer the best value for premium seats if you are quick. Otherwise, the early-bird deal is the best guaranteed route, saving £20 on selected tickets for Monday to Thursday performances when booking at least 12 weeks ahead. Prices do not rise as the date nears, so waiting costs you choice of seat, not money, but the cheapest seats for any date go first. An off-peak date is roughly 8% cheaper for mid-range seats. Students pay from £17.25, families of four from £24.75 per ticket, and groups of ten or more from £32.50 a head.

Where to sit
The Stalls give the clearest views, though legroom is tight and the back rows feel low. The centre of the Dress Circle is prime; avoid its far sides and rear rows. The Grand Circle is good value but steep and cramped, and the Balcony is only for the truly budget-conscious.
