The Cherry Orchard
Chekhov's 1904 tragicomedy follows Lyubov Ranevskaya, a kind-hearted but irresponsible landowner who returns to her mortgaged childhood estate to find the family home and its famous cherry orchard under threat. As loyalties shift and ambitions rise, a world of privilege crumbles and she must choose between embracing the future and clinging to memory.
Conor McPherson has written a new version, directed by Ian Rickson. Kristin Scott Thomas plays Ranevskaya and Stephen Mangan is Lopakhin, with Peter Wight, Ruby Bentall and Megan Cusack in the company. Running time is 2 hours 30 minutes including one interval, and the age guidance is 11+.

Where to sit
At the Harold Pinter, the Dress Circle is often the premium level, with a balanced view; mind the front rail and the overhang at the back. The Stalls are immersive, but the front rows strain the neck and the back is under the overhang. The Royal Circle, above it, is more affordable but high, with restricted legroom and a front rail. The Balcony is the budget choice: high, distant and up a lot of stairs, though the acoustics are surprisingly clear. Seats run from £25 to £165.
