The Phantom of the Opera
Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, based on Gaston Leroux's novel, is a haunting love story set in a grand opera house in Paris. Its score includes the title song and The Music of the Night.
With lyrics by Charles Hart and the original staging by Hal Prince, it has played at His Majesty's Theatre since 1986 and is in its 40th year in London. Jordan Donica currently plays the Phantom, with Beatrice Penny-Touré as Christine Daaé, Rhys Whitfield as Raoul and Sierra Boggess as Carlotta. The cast also includes Matt Bateman, Joseph Millson, Ian Pirie, Joanna Riding and Millie Lyon.

Phantom sells strongly and is booking to October 2027, so the cheapest seats for a date go first. The simplest saving is the night you choose: Monday to Thursday performances top out at £183, against £223 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Ways to pay less
Book ahead for The Phantom of the Opera, as the cheapest seats for any date go first. While peak performances carry a small surcharge, an off-peak date is the easy saving, though the price difference is not huge. If you are happy to gamble, day tickets at £37.50 are released online each morning for same-day performances, but a seat is not guaranteed. The biggest reduction is for groups of 10 or more, from £47.50 a head.

Where to sit
His Majesty's rewards choosing your level carefully. The mid-Stalls are the best seats, but the very front strains your neck and the rear is obstructed. The centre of the Royal Circle has a panoramic view, though the shallow rake and sharp curve catch out the side seats. The Grand Circle's steep rake gives excellent central views, with restricted sides and a real drop. Avoid the Balcony unless price is everything: it's distant, cramped and can get stuffy. Seats run from £25 to £225.
