The Island

In South Africa’s most notorious maximum-security prison, John and Winston endure a relentless battle for survival. As night falls, they find comfort in the words of Sophocles, using friendship, humour, and imagination as weapons of resistance. They question the true cost of freedom in the face of tyranny.

This Tony Award-winning masterpiece of anti-apartheid theatre was devised by Athol Fugard, John Kani, and Winston Ntshona. It is directed by Almeida Associate Director Ola Ince.
