About The Venue

The Young Vic, founded in 1970, is a dynamic and innovative theatre known for its diverse and often experimental programming. Rebuilt in 2006-07, its award-winning architecture features a raw, industrial aesthetic with highly flexible performance spaces. It fosters an intimate atmosphere, committed to developing new talent and engaging with contemporary issues. The theatre is celebrated for its bold productions and accessible approach to theatre-making.

Seating

The Young Vic's Main House is renowned for its exceptional flexibility and lack of fixed seating levels. Unlike traditional theatres with permanent Stalls, Dress Circle, etc., the auditorium is a large, adaptable space where the stage and seating configuration are custom-built and reconfigured for almost every production. Seating capacity typically ranges from 300 to 600, with a common configuration accommodating around 420 people. Seating is often raked, arranged in various configurations such as in the round, thrust, traverse, or end-on, and can be built on multiple temporary tiers. Views are generally excellent due to the intimate design and the bespoke nature of each layout, ensuring a close connection to the performance. Legroom and overall comfort vary significantly depending on the specific layout, type of temporary seating installed, and the production's design for a given show. Restricted views are rare but can occasionally occur depending on the specific set design and the placement of temporary seating within a particular configuration.
