Matilda The Musical
Matilda The Musical is based on Roald Dahl's novel about a gifted little girl who uses her imagination and intelligence to overcome adversity and take control of her own destiny.
It has music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly. It was created by the Royal Shakespeare Company and directed by Matthew Warchus. The production has played at the Cambridge Theatre since 2011. Running time is 2 hours 35 minutes including an interval. The age guidance is recommended for ages 6+, and children under 4 cannot be admitted.

How to book
Booking is open to January 2027, and it sells steadily rather than out, so you can usually pick a date and a seat without racing. Peak performances carry a surcharge: mid-range seats run £75–£100 against £62–£80 off-peak, roughly 25% more, so an off-peak date is the easy saving.
Ways to pay less
For the best value, book well ahead for the early-bird rate on premium seats from £57.50, particularly for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings in January 2027. If you cannot wait, TKTS often has mid-range seats for around £47 or budget seats for £30 on the day. Alternatively, you can save up to 27% on tickets from SeatPlan, with £65 seats usually £89.50. If you're happy to gamble, enter the weekly lottery for a chance to win £30 tickets. Groups of 10 or more pay from £39.50 a head, or from £35 a head when booking 8 weeks out for Tuesday to Thursday evenings.

Where to sit
Groups do well here: six or more get Stalls and Dress Circle seats from £45 on Tuesday to Friday evenings, and ten or more from £39.50. The Dress Circle is the Cambridge's sweet spot for an elevated, comfortable view. The Stalls put you close, but the high stage and the overhang mean choosing your row carefully. The Upper Circle is good value with a full view of the stage, if distant and tight on legroom.
